Our Mission

We support and partner with organizations that provide young people instruction in music, nature, and the arts, especially in regions of the country where such opportunities may be lacking and programs can have a significant impact.

Giving Philosophy

The foundation recognizes that the needs are great and resources are limited, so partners will be chosen based on the quality of their programs and the needs of the community they serve.  The board will look at various factors to help determine the impact that potential partners are having in their community, including track record of success, efficiency of operations and needs being met.  Consistent with this concept of maximizing the impact of every donated dollar, the foundation is completely volunteer-run.  This model insures that virtually 100% of every dollar donated ends up in its target communities.

 Charities

The Music Resource Center is a creative space where teens come to make music together and forge friendships across multiple communities. For the fiscal year 2024-25, the TMF will act as co-sponsor for the MRC Certified internship program.

The Tess Majors Foundation has donated a new 15 passenger shuttle to The Launch Pad Teen Center in Prescott AZ. This gift will expand access to programs that connect teens with hands-on learning through art, outdoor adventure, leadership development, and entrepreneurship. By doubling transportation capacity, the new shuttle helps The Launch Pad reach more young people with transformative experiences that build confidence, creativity, and community.

Nature Camp is a residential, summer camp specializing in natural history and environmental science education since 1942. The Tess Majors Foundation has established the TM Endowed Naturalist position. In addition, the TMF will also support both full and partial need-based scholarships for campers in Augusta, Albemarle, Rockbridge and Rockingham counties.

The Tess Majors Foundation is proud to partner with Project GROWS in support of their Youth Leaders in Agriculture (YLA) Program, offering paid summer jobs to high school juniors and seniors interested in learning about sustainable agriculture, leadership, and community development. The YLA program provides transformative experiences that help youth develop critical skills while fostering a sense of purpose and community and exploring various career pathways related to food and farming.
